Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, toasted and chopped

Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecans, toasted and chopped (for topping)

Directions:

Prepare the Cake:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in the vanilla extract and toasted pecans.

Prepare the Frosting:
